Caring for Your Seashell Décor: A Simple Guide

August 18, 2026 · 1 min read

Natural seashell pieces are delicate but long-lasting when cared for properly. Here are our artisans’ tips for keeping your collection looking its best for years to come.

Dust regularly, gently

Use a soft, dry brush — a clean makeup brush works well — to remove dust from the crevices of textured shells. Avoid running water directly over painted or lacquered pieces.

Keep out of direct sunlight

Prolonged sun exposure can fade the natural pigments in seashells over time. Display your pieces in indirect light for the longest-lasting color.

Handle with clean, dry hands

Natural oils from skin can dull the shine of polished shells over time. When rearranging your display, handle pieces by their base or sturdiest point.

Store thoughtfully

If you need to pack a piece away, wrap it in soft cloth (not plastic, which can trap moisture) and store it somewhere stable and dry.
